What’s the big deal? Why is it so important that we know who we are? Your identity matters! You matter! Check out this post about why it should be important to you. If those reasons still didn’t convince you, here are some amazing things that happen when you embrace your God-given identity and purpose.
1. Your Understanding of the Gospel Deepens
There is no way to divorce identity and the gospel.
The gospel transforms us. It gives us a new identity.
1 Corinthians 6:11
11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Check out the list of “such” things in the previous verses. Woah! Talk about a change in who you are!
8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
The gospel CHANGES who you are. When Christ died on the cross… when He conquered the grave, it gave YOU the opportunity to be radically transformed. Christ freely gave us the opportunity to go from being enemies of God, to being children-welcomed, accepted, invited, protected, loved.
2. Your Gratitude Increases
And when you realize the depth of this gospel truth, isn’t it only natural to be filled with an enormous amount of thankfulness?
When you realize that you are His… You are a child of God given access to His amazing unending supply of power, wisdom, etc., how could you not increase in genuine and humble gratitude?
And when you catch a glimpse of the amazing things God has placed inside you-just you (and if you truly embrace those things) you will be thankful. Thankful that God hand-crafted you. Thankful that God chose to give you good things. It will make you so thankful that He gave you a new heart, a new identity in Christ, a new purpose for your life.
3. Envy No Longer Has a Place in your Life
And friends, when you are thankful for YOUR identity, envy just won’t have a place in your life. Envy means we are not satisfied with our own lives. And maybe envy comes when we don’t really know who we are. It comes from not understanding the power and importance of the way God made us.
So naturally when you embrace YOUR life, YOUR gifts, YOUR identity, you will be less inclined to longingly look at other people’s lives.
4. You Become More Focused
And these things… one flows into another. Because when you don’t spend your time and energy dwelling on what others have, your focus on what God has placed right in front of you will become more and more clear.
You will see opportunities.
You will take opportunities.
Yes, you will know who you are and whose you are. You will understand what you are made for and you will walk in your purpose in an amazingly powerful way!
My dear sisters in Christ, I AM EXCITED ABOUT WHO YOU ARE!
I so eagerly want you to know who you are and what you are made for, because I know that when you do, the world is going to see the power of Christ in you and you are going to have an AMAZING impact on the world around you.
Your identity matters. YOU MATTER.
