Identity and Purpose. Two things I am clearly very passionate about. I believe it is so important for us as women of God to know who we are and what we were made for. I can’t communicate it enough.
As adults, a lot of us have obstacles when it comes to knowing, believing and receiving our Kingdom identity and purpose. Maybe some of us were never taught those things in the first place.
So what if we started now with our children? What if we teach it young? What if we could instill the concepts of identity and purpose in our children so strongly that they truly will go forth as arrows in the hands of warriors? Powerful forces for the Kingdom of God.

I believe we can and should instill this STRONG sense of identity and purpose in our children. There are many ways to do this, and one is to invest in tools that will help reinforce what we teach them. That’s why I can’t wait to share with you this amazing book that will help you do just that.
Zariah received “The Plans I Have for You”, written by Amy Parker and illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton on her first birthday. She LOVED it then because of the beautiful illustrations that are truly captivating. There are so many things to look at and talk about on each page.
The Plans I Have for You
Now, (almost 3-years-old) she still loves this book. She’s engaged with the fun rhyme scheme and asks lots of questions about all the things she sees. And that gives us so much to talk about. The book is based on Jeremiah 29:11:
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
It’s a book that encourages children that God has a plan for their lives. It outlines a TON of different career paths. (I really was amazed at how many they were able to squeeze in.)
“The Plans I Have for You” encourages children to imagine and wonder what “Humongous” purpose God might have for them. And it doesn’t just highlight career paths, it really emphasizes that every job is important because God will allow those jobs to be the way He ministers to the world.
You are my hands and my feet there on Earth… I’ve given you a purpose-it’s been there since birth
Not only does this book encourage being on mission for the Lord, but it also emphasizes reading the bible as a guide for how to do that.
You know what else we LOVE about this book? Color.
Of course, we love the vibrant pages with so much to see, but what I mean is that we LOVE the diversity this book displays. All the children are different ethnicities.
Different shades. Different eyes. Hair textures. Styles and more! The words of the book talk about purpose, but the pictures communicate that it is good to be unique. It’s good to embrace your own identity.
I’m confident that any child who would sit down and read this book would be able to identify with at least one of the characters AND be able to see and embrace the beauty of all the others.
What are You Waiting for?
The book ends by encouraging the reader to go and find the thing God has for them to do. Let me tell you, this book inspires ME to get out and do what I’m supposed to do to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the world around me!
“The Plans I Have for You” is so captivating and teaches powerful truths about identity and purpose to our children.
And get this- it’s just the tool. A starting place. An opportunity to talk to your daughter about her curly hair, or talk to your son about the freckles on his face. It’s a chance to talk to your children about what they love and what they are good at.
All the while strengthening and building up their little souls.
